Staircase shuttering marking is the process of marking the exact position, level, width, rise, tread, and slope of the staircase on the shuttering before fixing the reinforcement and concreting

In Simple Terms

Staircase shuttering marking means marking the staircase dimensions and levels on the shuttering so that the steps are constructed correctly as per the approved drawing.

Staircase Marking is done so as to facilitate the fixing of the staircase at the correct level for all the threads and landing.

Basement drain slope marking means marking the correct floor levels and slope so that water does not stagnate and flows smoothly into the drain.

Procedure for Staircase Marking:

  • First calculate the mid landing level and mark it on the column near by
  • Deduct the slab thickness and mark the mid landing slab bottom level.

  • Mark the individual riser and tread on the side shuttering of staircase using a permanent marker and a right angle template. The length of each riser and tread should be as per drawing.
  • Difference should be adusted by disturbing the error to the length of the riser of all the steps(addition or deduction in length).
  • The Risers are numbered to check by counting.
  • Join the line connecting the bottom points of the risers using a string line and mark it.
  • Mark the waist slab thickness at right angles to the above line.
  • Mark the waist slab bottom line.

Note:

The marking of the height of risers can be done on the column coming in line with staircase and can be used for cross checking of the actual marking of risers.

Inspection Method of Staircase Marking:

  • Check the height of mid landing slab bottom level.
  • Check the height of the riser of each step, that is marked on the column.
  • Check if the number of risers are as per the drawings.

Basement Drains Slope Marking:

Basement Drain slope marking is done to assure that the water in the drains do not stop at any point, after the drains are constructed. This marking can be done for excavation and PCC Laying.

Procedure for Basement drain slope Marking :

  • The Alignment of the drain should be as per MEP drawings which will give the centerline.
  • Drive reinforcement rods at 5m to 10m intervals from the starting point of the drain,all along its layout.
  • On the rod that is fixed at the start of the drain, a paint mark is made at a height of 1m from the ground level.
  • This marked is transferred to the next rod using a tube level.

  • Assuming, that the length of a drain is 10m and a slope of 1:100 has been prescribed, a mark is made on the second rod at a distance of 100mm, below the previously made mark.(100mm is got by applying 1:100 slope over a length of 10m).
  • A string line is tied between the first and the second rod, connecting the two Points.
  • Now as the excavation is being done, at any point of time, the distance between the thread and bottom of the drain to be reached should be equal to height all along the drain.
  • The same procedure can be followed for maintaining the top of PCC at the required slope.

Inspection Method of Basement Drains slope marking:

Check if the location, Alignment add the dimensions of the marking are according to GFC Drawings.
